Working on a christmas card design. I love this cookie idea, but (1) I feel like I’ve seen it somewhere before (have you??) and (2) it needs something else. Maybe a plate to sit on? Hmm…

I’ve been working on some stationery designs, and had a big aha! moment when I realized I should be making digital versions of some of the old gocco cards I used to make. This one was always a crowd pleaser, though also particularly divisive - usually people would stop to laugh, OR stop to say, wait a second, I LIKE BROCCOLI.
I think the color and texture are a big aesthetic change from the old version, which you can see here…It’s not a bad change, or a good change, necessarily, but certainly something to think about. Maybe my digital versions should be more of a faux-screenprinted aesthetic??

I’m here!
Does this happen to everyone else? My interest in different artistic endeavors waxes and ebbs like the tide…no, just kidding, I don’t talk like that. If I did, that’d be fine and all, but I do not. Still, though. I think between all the deadlines here, plus work I did for a friend’s business, plus the illustration class over at pikaland, I overdid it. And I stopped doing illustration work for several weeks. I did/do have something cool that I’d like to work on, specifically for the blog, and a few other projects going on…I did some painting, and I’ve been working on another friend’s wedding invites, and then last night I was working on some other invites. I think it’d be cool to design a whole bunch of invites and try to sell designs on etsy. That’s what the flower above relates to.
As for my deadlines? I don’t know if/when they’re coming back! I’m on summer break right now, and trying to stay busy (read: watching Mad Men), and then in a few weeks I start a new job. I don’t know what I’ll have time for. We’ll see!

No excuses! I get annoyed on other blogs when people apologize for not updating more often. I’ve been busy. I think I have to drop the 4-day-deadline thing while this pikaland class is going on…I just finished this assignment for class, only it’s just 1/3 of one assignment, and I have literally SIX MORE illustrations to get create. And then next week I’ll probably get 1 or more in addition to that. So I need to focus on those!
(This is 1/3 of an assignment that’s past/present/future. The story is, it was my 7th or 8th birthday, and I got this fantastic barbie dollhouse with a string-operated elevator that was unbearably cool. I was putting my barbie in her bed, and pulled up the covers, when my grandmother told me to be careful - I didn’t want her to suffocate. Since then, I have always been nervous about falling asleep with the covers over my head, convinced I’ll suffocate. People tell me it won’t happen but I can’t shake my fear!)
Meanwhile, I bought a new computer (my old one is dying, plus I need to update some programs that may or may not even work on the dying computer), and have been happy to have had a few other professional illo gigs in the past few weeks. I’m going to learn After Effects so future illustrations will be animated! Which sounds so exciting!!! We’ll see what happens!

Pipe!
There is an Artie (from Pete and Pete) spray-painted on the sidewalk near where I live, with the word PIPE underneath, and whenever I’m walking my dog past it it makes me so happy!
